HOUSEBOATS

Ahoj, Captain!

The Bat’a canal is a technical monument that connects the sixty-kilometer section between Otrokovice and Sudoměřice. Part of this waterway flows through a number of nature reserves and consists of meanders of the Morava River and part of it is artificially excavated. The canal was built in 1938 and served mainly for transport purposes and the irrigation of Moravian Slovakia. The last ship sailed on the channel in 1961. It took 35 years for the channel to reopen for tourists.

Currently, there are 9 ports on the artificial waterway, which provide facilities for holiday goers. Each of the ports is equipped with several types of vessels from sightseeing boats, through rafts and small motor cabin boats to canoes and houseboatsThe difference in heights on this waterway, which is almost 19 meters, is equalized by 13 locks.

The unique Bat’a canal combines a peaceful cruise through unique nature with a tour of wine cellars, a cycle ride through protected landscape areas and a visit of historical monuments. Currently, it is even possible to cross the border and get by boat to the port in Skalica in Slovakia. On the way along the Morava River, you can experience adventures on a raft, eat homemade sausages, taste local wines, relax on sandy beaches, sip beer from a keg with friends on a boat, search for treasure with the children, or just enjoy sitting around a campfire or barbecue.
