SPA & WELLNESS
An escape for body and mind
One of the most frequent reasons among foreign tourists for visiting Czechia is to stay in a spa. The Czech spa tradition is one of the oldest in Europe and dates back to the 18th century. During the course of the last centuries, some of the most significant personalities of the world have come to Czechia to enjoy the healing powers of the spas.
Spa facilities can be found throughout the entire country on more than 30 locations. Currently, Czechia boasts the highest number of the EUROPESPA med© Certificate holders. This seal of quality is awarded by the European Spas Association (ESPA) to selected European spa resorts after a thorough on-site inspection and audit of their operation.
Today, spas are not only used by people recovering from sickness, but also by those who wish to prevent ailment and treat their body and mind to extensive pampering. Therefore, spa resorts offer both the classic medical stays as well as packages aimed at relaxation and regeneration. All of them use one or more of the following natural healing resources: mineral water, peloids like peat, mud and silt, gases and of course the climate.
During your stay, a combination of treatments, relaxation, high quality gastronomy, as well as sports and culture help you to escape the reality of everyday life and to fully enjoy the healing qualities of the Czech spas.

The west Bohemian spa triangle
The famous West Bohemian spa triangle consists of the towns of Karlovy Vary, Františkovy Lázně and Mariánské Lázně.
These three towns still display to this day the magnificence and grandeur of the spa’s golden age. In the 19th century “taking a cure” in Bohemia’s elegant spa towns was the talk of Europe’s fashionable salons.
In those days the most illustrious personalities gathered at the Czech spas. They included Goethe, Chopin, Metternich, Twain, King of England Edward VII and Russian Tsar Peter the Great.
The West Bohemian spa triangle is an area to which people from all around the world have come for centuries to recharge their batteries, unwind and breathe fresh air.
Thanks to the area’s mineral-rich springs, whose waters possess medicinal qualities, people come to treat problems with the muscular-skeletal system, the cardiovascular system and infertility.
Between spa procedures you can enjoy a round of golf, take a bike ride or head out for some horse riding. You can also just have a relaxing stroll in the shade of the colonnades or try some of the local specialities such as herb liqueur and spa wafers.
In 2021, the West Bohemian spa triangle was awarded the status of UNESCO World Heritage.

Because Czechia is the homeland of beer, the Czechs have come up with a delicious alternative for the traditional spa. In some of the spas you can bathe and relax in a beer spa, a bath tub filled with beer. What better way to truly enjoy your lager beer?
The yearly Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is world famous and is held every year at the beginning of July. A perfect occasion to catch the latest movies and to meet your favorite movie stars and directors from all over the globe.
Mariánské Lázně is the city with the largest number of memorial plaques, monuments and buildings bearing the name of Fryderyk Chopin in the world. The Polish composer and piano player visited Mariánské Lázně multiple times and grew very fond of the town. The annual international festival of classical music was founded in his honour and is the second oldest music festival in Czechia, counting among the most eminent events of its type in Europe.
Also in Mariánské Lázně, in the very heart of the town, you will find the splendid Neo-Baroque colonnade, probably the most beautiful of its kind in the whole of Czechia and an absolute must-see.
